“Excuse me, but do I look like someone who cares?” – What doctors really think about obese patients
In the United States of America, if you are way too fat and decide to look out for help and find a doctor, you have half the chance that you will end up with a guy that thinks you are lazy, stubborn, and on top of that, ugly..

A recently published article on the American journal “Obesity Research” reports what doctors actually think about their obese patients and the causes and treatment of their obesity.
Authors of this study sent a questionnaire to 5000 American primary care physicians and the results were as follows:

  • More than 50% of physicians viewed obese patients as awkward, unattractive, ugly, and noncompliant.

  • They believed treatment of obesity was not very effective mainly because patients did not do what they told them to do.

  • Primary care physicians viewed obesity as largely a behavioral problem and shared our broader society's negative stereotypes about the personal attributes of obese persons.
  • BUT…. (here comes the good news !)

  • More than one-half (54%) would spend more time working on weight management issues if their time was reimbursed appropriately.
  • (wow! how thoughtful of them!)

So what this article is really showing is, that at least in the United States of America, if you are way too fat and decide to look out for help and find a doctor, you have half the chance that you will end up with a guy that thinks you are lazy, stubborn, and on top of that, ugly.
But the good news is: your Doctor might be willing to spend enough time with your case and tell you are great looking if you are willing to pay the bill…
Somebody looking for an appointment ?…..
